Will The Big Names, Shame?

KICKING OFF THE ARTICLE

With the 2011/12 football season just weeks away most of us have already considered who we want; some of us have already picked and submitted our team that will lead us to glory! But it’s not too late to change… Don’t be afraid to leave a few big names out after all the Ferguson, Mancini and Wenger aren’t and they have a lot more to lose.

IN GAME TACTICS

So how have you gone about selecting yours? We often get blinded by the tabloids and the mention of big names, this can lead to disaster, if we refer to a few of the most recently mentioned players in the press such as De Gea, Fabregas, Tevez, and Gervinho. We could quite easily fall into the trap of picking these big name players because of who they are and play for. Have we considered that De Gea is new to England and could be the next Roy Carroll, Tim Howard, or Massimo Taibi, of past years? Fabregas while very much comfortable with the English game its possible he won’t have another season like last year after contemplating what could have turned out at Barcelona. Tevez is very much unsettled and could move anywhere in the World at a moments notice. Gervinho was impressive at the World Cup for the Ivory Coast and could be the next Didier Drogba, already having 5 other regularly featuring strikers and 8 regular midfielders how will Wenger use him? With this in mind we should be careful how we pick our players from all the major clubs, often they have strength and depth and will therefore rotate or bring a big name off to prepare for a European or English cup game This season I have selected the 4-3-3 formation as this was the formation used by the winner of The Sun Dream Team during 2010/11 How I select my team is to choose the goalkeeper and defence from the biggest clubs as I feel clubs are less likely to rotate the big name defenders. The midfielders, I take into consideration bookings injuries or rotation before anything else, the forwards I consider proven players that will feature often and score. Also looking at a points table for last season is a must, remembering that points are given for appearances too!

FINAL WHISTLE

Think about how many players’ there are at one club that can play in the same position, do your players have a history of controversy off the field that is likely to get him dropped? Have your star men seen there better days come and go, or will they prove why they are still playing in the biggest league in the world ? It’s up to you the manager to decide!
